Steven Hooker takes Daegu Championships as a big job – IAAF World Championships in Athletics
Steve Hooker, the 29-year-old pole vaulter from Australia, who is all set to defend his World Championships title in Daegu, says that it will not be an easy task.
Relying on the entire potential that he has got for the sport, and still taking expected rivalries at the mega athletic event with acute seriousness, Hooker said, “I’m going to be defending the world title with all I have, but it’s going to be a big job.
I think if everything had gone perfectly going in, if I knew that I was going in career best shape, that would be important to me.”
However, the Olympic gold medallist realised the fact that it was imperative for him to be realistic and enter the championships with proper homework and training. The task seemed forthcoming as this was what he genuinely wanted to attain. To him, only jumping
well at the event could mark the success of the event, which could lay down the foundation for initiating with a good stop for next year’s London Olympics. Now, displaying an up to mark performance had become the focus of his game.
On the basis of training and work out he had done, Hooker was confident of doing well in Daegu, however, he was also aware of the fact that there were many others who had been through a more strenuous workout than him.
Hinting towards this fact, the Australian said, “Having said that, I’m sure I’m going to get really competitive once I’m out there and I’ll want to be the guy who wins the competition, as I am at every competition I go to, but in reality there’s going to
be others who have had a lot better preparation.”
Thus, he had decided to give out his best to oust the rest of the field at Daegu. With this resolve, the Olympic record holder reiterated his intention to bag the gold for his team, which was the first one to land in South Korea for the mega athletics event.
