Steven Jackson day-to-day after finger surgery
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson has been listed as day-to-day after undergoing surgery to repair an injured left ring finger.
Jackson wrote on his Twitter page, "Yes, I had surgery on my ring finger, but I shouldn't miss a beat. I'm not married so I'm covered there too."
The Rams running back underwent surgery on Monday, 25 October, having two pins put in, leaving his status for next week's game unknown.
Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo commented on Jackson's condition by saying, "He didn't think it was a big deal. He kept playing. ... He's going to be sore. Hopefully, he'll be able to play this week. We'll know more after he gets through it. ... He's just
a warrior. He goes out and plays, and we find out later on there's a crack in there."
The injury to Jackson occurred during the Rams 18-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On the same night, Jackson also broke the Rams' franchise record for rushing yards set by Eric Dickerson. Despite breaking his finger, Jackson stayed in the game.
Jackson ran for 110 yards against the Bucs bringing his rushing total after six seasons with the Rams to 7324 yards.
"Wonderful, wonderful thing for him, for this organization, for all the guys along the way that have blocked for him," Spagnuolo said of Jackson's record. "Hopefully there's a lot more yards to come."
Jackson is currently ranked fourth in the NFL in rushing yards with 617 on the season so far. The Rams are currently 3-4, and hold third place in the NFC West behind the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
Although the Rams will be hoping that their top rusher isn't forced to miss too much action, backup running back Kenneth Darby will be filling in if Jackson is unfit to play next Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
"Everybody on the team is important, but Steven Jackson's a leader," offensive tackle Jason Smith said. "Everybody knows he's a very important piece of this puzzle."
