Steven Jackson is healthy and on the verge of a St. Louis Rams record
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson is on the verge of eclipsing Eric Dickerson's record of 7245 yards, which would make him the Rams all-time leading rusher.
Jackson needs a big game against his opponents, the San Diego Chargers, if he hopes to break the record this Sunday, October 17.
Fortunately, Jackson has claimed that he has now completely healed from the nagging injury that had been hampering his play for the last two weeks.
"I would like to break the record as soon as possible," Jackson said. "I think it would be special to do it at home. The thing I'm focused on is helping lead this young team to a win."
After eclipsing Marshall Faulk for second place in franchise history two weeks ago, Jackson now only needs 141 yards to move ahead of Dickerson. Steven Jackson admits to being a big fan of Dickerson's, as he reminisces about meeting the Hall of Famer earlier
in his career.
"He's always been nice to me, he's always been available for me to talk to," Jackson said. "I've always been a fan -- I'm a little biased -- toward big running backs."
The Rams will have a tough test ahead of them if they hope to get the win. The Chargers are currently ranked third overall in team defence and it will be up to Jackson to break them down. Both teams will have a lot to play for as both the Rams and the Chargers
will be looking to improve to 3-3.
Despite his nagging injury, Jackson was a lone bright spot in the Rams offence last week, running for 114 yards on 25 carries, as the Rams suffered an embarrassing 44-6 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions.
Jackson has run for 7105 yards over seven seasons, all of which have been spent with the Rams.
