Question:

Steven King won both a VFL (reserves) and an AFL premiership in same year (week)? Anybody else ever do that?

Back in the day, the reserves played in the morning before the seniors at the G on Grand Final day. It may have been hard to play in both then, but maybe a late withdrawal let a player come in to a side on the bench and be in two premierships in one day?

  1. iuno can they do that... dus it matter??

  2. Don't know what all the fuss is about .  King was in the reserves all season, his future ultimately being decided by 'selectors',  because of injury and form.   Again, with a decision of selectors he was added to senior squad  and wins a second  Premiership medal in a week, who cares!   Now a fortnight after the Grand Final  the same selectors, have allowed him to be traded to St Kilda , obviously the selectors DONT!.

  3. Well I think up until not too long back, the reserves/VFL grand final was played on the same day as the big boys, so it would have been tough.

Fascinating question and I'm not sure how to get that out of the stats books.  Presumably first you have to look at where the club and its reserves (or feeder VFL team) both won the GF. That's pretty rare but might apply to Carlton or Collingwood in the 60's and 70's.  And then you'd have to fish through the player lists.

Wow - hadn't caught the bit about the trade to Kilda.  So how many players have won two flags for their clubs and then been traded.  Wrong choice in my view.  Bad message to the team.

  4. Which match was played first - the league or reserves?

Surely it must have been the reserves because King needs his **** kicked if he fronted up in the reserves after playing in the league win.

But, to deny another player a place in a winning grand final team wouldn't have phased him much, I shouldn't imagine......

  5. got traded as well the next week that has to be a one off
