Steven Maxwell-Tim Hunt collide in 10-round bout for the Australian welterweight title – Boxing News
Steven Maxwell, the former IBF Australasian welterweight champion, is scheduled to take on fellow countryman Tim Hunt, the current Australia – Victoria State welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout which will take place on April 20, 2012 and will decide
the owner of the vacant Australian welterweight title.
The duo will fight in the undercard of the pay-per-view put forth by Adam Wilcock of Fightcard Promotions which will be headlined by the championship bout between Diana Prazak and Fatuma Zarika.
The Friday night show will be co-headlined by the bout between Jarrod Fletcher and Les Piper. Steven and Tim will enter the ring in order to prove as to who is worthy enough to wear the country’s apex welterweight gold as it will not only boost the owner’s
repo in the division but will also help him enjoy the limelight and move on to world title bouts.
The battle will be a toe-to-toe one since both possess almost the same resume with a bit difference. Tim, 24, has been in a total 15 bouts and emerged victorious in 12. He has nailed just four opponents by knockout and lacks the ability to throw powerful
jabs.
Steven, on the other hand, 29, has been in a total 17 bouts and nailed 11 of his opponents, six of them via knockout. Also known as ‘The Super’, Steven has underwent a very strenuous training and sparring session just for this bout and in a recent interview
has revealed that he will not repeat the mistakes he committed in his last bout against Alex Ahtong.
Maxwell collected a unanimous decision loss in his favour and was brutally injured and flattened thrice during the six-round bout. Tim is also coming from a split decision loss in his last bout therefore it is a golden chance for both men to collect a win
not only to make a comeback on the win track but also to grab the apex Australian divisional gold.
During the brief interview, Maxwell commented, “I'm very confident. I'm fit, I'm strong and I'm feeling really good about myself at the moment. I've worked on a few things I didn't do right in the last fight and I'm really looking forward to trying them
out and showing people what I'm all about again. It's one of the biggest fights I've had.”
While exhibiting his resolve to not let Tim overshadow him during the bout, Steven vowed, “I reckon he might think he will be able to [push me], but I don't plan on letting him. I guess we'll find out on the night.”
The bout will be televised live on Australian Fox TV and will also witness Matthew Lytwynenko defend his Australia - Victoria State light welterweight title against Robert Whaley.
