Steven Pierson and Hugo Dubosc secure place in Round 3 at Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro
French Polynesian surfer Steven Pierson and Reunion Island’s Hugo Dubosc made it through into the third round (Round of 64) at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro after walking away with top honours from their
respective Round 2 (Round of 96) heats that went down at Playa de Pantin in Galicia, Spain, on Wednesday, September 12.
Portugal’s Justin Mujica made it into the next round as well after finishing behind Pierson in second place during the opening heat of the second round. His compatriots Ruben Gonzalez and Jhon Junior were, however, eliminated from the competition after rounding
out the bottom-two positions.
The second heat sent Venezuela’s Jesus Chacon into the third round after he successfully secured runner-up place. Argentina’s Marcelo Rodriguez and Portugal’s Joao Guedes finished in third and fourth place respectively, consequently getting removed from
the contention for the event title.
The two-to-three foot waves breaking at the iconic Playa de Pantin promised to deliver plenty of enthralling action throughout the course of the day as the up-and-coming talent from around the globe continued to take each other on in four-man battles for
survival.
The first heat saw Pierson squaring-off with the Portugal talent, namely Mujica, Gonzalez and Junior.
The French Polynesian surfer got off to a modest start, but eventually locked his first business-wave to post a 6.83 on the score-board. He went on to add an additional 6.40 points to his account, thus reaching a heat-total of 13.23 points.
Mujica did not look too comfortable with the conditions on hand, but eventually managed to get to a heat-total of 10.67 points, which comprised of a 4.67 and 6.00-point tide, thus advancing through into the next round.
Gonzalez and Junior got eliminated from the competition after finishing with a heat-total of 9.73 and 8.83 points respectively.
The second heat saw Dubosc barely get his hands on victory to secure his place in the next round. The Reunion Island-based surfer got his first decent score of 5.03 in the final minutes of the heat and backed it up with a 5.50-point ride just in time to
finish on top.
Chacon scored a 5.07 and 3.67 off his best-two waves for a resultant heat-total of 8.74 point, which served to take him through into the next round.
Rodriguez finished in third place with a heat-total of 7.60 points, while Guedes had to settle for fourth place after registering a heat-total of 5.90 points.
