Steven Stumph conquers Men’s 200 yard breaststroke heats – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Steven Stumph of Orinda Aquatics conquered the qualification rounds of Men’s 200 yard breaststroke on third day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
The 18-year-old Stumph dictated terms to his opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline and made his way towards the finishing blockade as the top fastest swimmer.
With his notable form, Stumph remained two body lengths ahead of his closest swimmer and surfaced on the wall for first position by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.42 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 2.13 seconds ahead of Michael Duderstadt of Panama City Swim Club, who occupied second fastest qualification spot of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.55 seconds.
Third position of the race was obtained by Curtis Ogren of Palo Alto Stanford, who was 0.85 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.40 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by Nicolas Hatanaka of Loveland Swim Club, who was 0.36 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.76 seconds.
Hatanaka was traced by Cole Hurwitz of The Dolphins-OR, who stayed 0.09 seconds slower and proved his mettle for fifth place by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.85 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Matthew Whittle of Davis Aquadarts, who stayed 0.17 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 01.02 seconds.
Whittle was followed by Jonathan Rutter of Powel Crosley, who was only an inch apart and occupied seventh position of the race by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 01.16 seconds.
Eighth finest spot of the event was obtained by Marlin Brutkiewicz of City of Mobile Swim Club, who was only 0.30 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.46 seconds.
Furthermore, Stumph was overjoyed with his fastest qualification effort in the breaststroke discipline.
