Steven Stumph pockets Men’s 200 yard breaststroke gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Steven Stumph of Orinda Aquatics pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 200 yard breaststroke on last day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
The 18-year-old Stumph dictated terms to his challengers in the event as he stepped on the victory stand for the title.
With his gruelling efforts, Stumph enjoyed a commendable lead over his challengers and surfaced on the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 55.88 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Curtis Ogren of Palo Alto Stanford, who was two and a half body length behind and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.25 seconds.
Ogren was chased by Michael Duderstadt of Panama City Swim, who was 0.90 seconds slower and hit the finishing wall for bronze medal by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 59.15 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Cole Hurwitz of The Dolphins-OR, who was 0.32 seconds slower and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 59.47 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Marlin Brutkiewicz of City of Mobile Swim Club, who surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 59.54 seconds.
Brutkiewicz was chased by Nicolas Hatanaka of Loveland Swim Club, who was almost 0.70 seconds behind and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.23 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Jonathan Rutter of Powel Crosley, who was one and a half body length behind and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.61 seconds.
Rutter stayed 0.40 seconds faster from Matthew Whittle of Davis Aquadarts, who secured eighth position of the race by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 02.01 seconds.
In addition, Stumph received a huge round of applause from the audience for his scintillating efforts at the prize ceremony of the event.
