http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor was glad to see his club team-mates get an opportunity to represent their respective countries in the ongoing European Championships, and believed that the Magpies stunning performance last season
merited more international call ups.
The 26-year old suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the previous term, which quashed his hopes of representing the Three Lions in the glamorous European event.
The former England Under-21 skipper managed to cap just 15 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions last season.
However, the defender let out his excitement to see his Newcastle colleagues get selected for the tournament, and mentioned that he will be cheering on England throughout the tournament.
He also believed that the Toon’s sensational run in the previous term should have catalysed the selection for some other players as well.
Currently http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yohan-Cabaye-c37423 and Tim Krul are part of the national squads of their respective countries.
Taylor told the club’s official website, “It's great for Newcastle United to see some of our players out there at Euro 2012, and in my opinion there should have been a few more given the season that we've just had.”
The English International heaped praised on the trio for their notable presence at the Sports Direct Arena, and felt that they fully deserved to be part of their national teams.
He was also optimistic about Krul’s chances of making it into the starting eleven for Holland during the course of the tournament, despite his current second-choice status in the Dutch squad. However, he indicated that irrespective of the fact that he is
able to make an appearance for his country or not, it will be a special moment for the Magpies shot stopper.
Taylor is yet to cap an international senior level appearance for England, having played for the Three Lions at Under-20 and 21 levels.
However, the defender admitted that he will watch England’s every game and was confident that the Three Lions will be able to use the underdogs tag to their advantage, with the experts and media labelling http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 as the tournament favourites.
He added, “The underdogs tag can work in our favour, and how many times have you seen the so-called favourites have all the possession but fail to put the ball in the back of the net? England have got pace in the side and there's no reason why we can't go
out and really hurt teams.”
He went on to put forward the example of Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in May, stressing the fact that it is not a rule that the best team always emerges victorious.
