Newcastle United centre-back Steven Taylor will make his much awaited comeback on Saturday evening, in a game against Olympiacos.
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 claim that Steven Taylor will get to play in Newcastle’s game against Olympiacos for a full 45-minutes. The game is to be the first of a two part friendly series and will be played at the XII Trofeo Guadiana. The game will be Taylor’s
first taste of competitive football in seven months.
Newcastle will later play FC Braga on Saturday night. The mini-tournament will also feature Olympiacos who will take on Braga tonight.
Taylor had travelled with the rest of the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Austria-c2844 but was unable to feature in any of their games. He will be the only senior defender for the mini tournament, despite the imminent arrival of Australian
youngster Curtis Good from Melbourne Heart.
Teammates http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew with open arms, as they are two of his most important players.
Last season saw Taylor in the best of forms. The defender featured regularly for the Magpies as he partnered captain Fabricio Coloccini in defence. Taylor was however injured in a game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in early December and was sidelined for the rest of the
season. The injury damaged his Achilles and he spent the rest of the season working on his fitness and getting better.
Taylor had experienced a number of injuries since January 2010 and was in and out of the team. Alan Pardew will be hoping to hold on to the defender for longer this time as he is confident that Taylor’s injury woes are behind him.
The game against Olympiacos will be an excellent opportunity for the defender to reclaim his spot in the first team, but he is set to face competition from Mike Williamson, who himself had an impressive season in the Premier League.
Newcastle fans will be hoping for manager Alan Pardew to add more faces to the squad. The club are understood to be in the hunt for a striker, with Liverpool’s Andy Carroll and Marseille’s Loic Remy possible targets. Pardew is also hopeful of signing another
centre-half, with reports linking him to FC Twente’s Brazilian centre-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600.
