Steven Taylor pushing for regular first team place
Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor says he is chomping at the bit to hold down a first team place.
Taylor has not played for the club over a 10-month period because of serious knee and shoulder injuries. He has only just returned to somewhere near full fitness and is already demanding first team football.
"I'm available for selection. I'm fit, and I've bided my time for the past few games. Now I'm hoping to get my chance.
All you can do it wait for your chance and wait for the gaffer to pick you and if I do get my chance I'll look forward to it. I will do my best for this club," Taylor
said on the Sky Sports website.
Taylor says it's a very exciting time to be a Newcastle United player because the club is competing in the Premier League and there is a lot of quality in the defence.
"We've got fantastic defenders at the club and that's been proved with Fabricio
[Coloccini] and Mike [Williamson] doing well this season," he added.
Experienced defender Sol Campbell is also on the fringes of the first team and looking to have an impact on the club. Although Taylor admits it will be difficult to oust the
current defensive partnership, he says himself and Campbell have a brilliant understanding.
"Playing with Sol would be fantastic. We played in the reserves against Man City
last week and I had a good partnership with him in a 1-0 win, so it would be good if we get the opportunity," Taylor said.
It's very important Taylor trains and acts in the right way over the next week or two. Chris Hughton is a manager that likes to stick with a settled team so Taylor has
to get himself noticed without pushing his luck.
Betting advice
There is little doubt that Taylor would make Newcastle a strong team defensively. However, he will struggle to get into an established side and it could be a few weeks
before he's playing regularly. Have a little bet on him to score when he does start a game.
