Steven Tiley eager to make a strong start at the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open – Golf news
Steven Tiley is confident to make a strong start this week at the European Challenge Tour’s D+D Real Czech Challenge Open. The tournament is slated to start from June 6, 2013.
The Golf & Spa Kunetická Hora will be the host venue for the second time in succession and will feature some of the best players from different parts of the world.
Last year, Tiley managed to make it into the last group but courtesy to his outstanding performances, he posted scores of 66, 67 and 67 in the first three rounds on Sunday. However, his final round score of 71
was not quite enough to challenge Andreas Hartø, the eventual winner, on top of the leaderboard – he finished seven shots behind the Hartø.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he said that he will try to overcome his mistakes this week, in a bid to mount a title charge on the weekend.
“I played very nicely for the first few days and only okay on the last day,” said Tiley. “I struggled a little with everything on the Sunday and with Andreas being the type of player he is – the sort of guy who
gets the job done when he has a sniff – he played really well and ended up running away with it.”
“But I’m looking forward to getting back out there. You have to keep your ball in play, there’s a little bit of rough and a few decision holes where you can hit driver into tighter spots or irons off the tee,”
he added.
Tiley is currently enjoying a decent form, having made the cut in each of the six starts he made so far in this season, and his best finish came at the Telenet Trophy where he finished tied for the ninth position.
Brooks Koepka, who won the Fred Olsen Challenge de España last week to extend his lead in the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, has also confirmed to participate in the event this week. It was American’s second
victory of the season, which allowed him to pocket €27,618 as prize money.
