Steven Tiley performing well after spending quality time with family
Steven Tiley of England fired a six-under par 66 at the Kunetická Hora Golf Club, to take the share of the third spot on the leaderboard, entering the second round of the inaugural D+D Real Czech Challenge Open.
Last month, Tiley’s fiancée gave birth to their first child and the 30-year-old took a month off to spend some time with his family.
Since returning to action at the Challenge de Catalunya two weeks ago, he has been performing well and is improving his position in the European Challenge Tour Rankings.
At the Challenge de Catalunya, he finished tied for the fourth position and followed that with a tied 15th-place finish at the ALLIANZ Open de Lyon last week.
Talking to the Challenge Tour’s official website in a post first-round interview, he stated that the birth of his first child has completely changed things for the Englishman.
“While I was off, every time I looked at the Rankings I was slipping down and down so I didn’t take it too easy after the baby was born,” he said.
He continued, “There was so much relief and joy that the mother and child were both healthy – that was always the main concern – and as soon as that was OK, everything was great”.
He added, “Then when I did come back and play golf I felt great about it and it puts a whole new meaning on life. I never thought it would but it has so it’s been great”.
Tiley carded a birdie on the 10th hole, his first, and followed that with another two birdies on the 13th and the 14th hole.
He then dropped the only shot of the day on the 15th hole and reached the turn with two-under par score.
His back-nine performance was even better, as he drained a total of four birdie putts without conceding a single bogey. At the end of the round, he settled two-strokes behind the leader Robert Dinwiddie.
In the meantime, Anders Schmidt Hansen, Mikko of Finland and Alexander Levy also signed their scorecards with a six-under par 66 and joined Tiley on the leaderboard.
