Steven Tiley remains in contention at the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open
Steven Tiley’s good form in the inaugural D+D Real Czech Challenge Open continues, as he carded a five-under par 67 in the second round on Friday, to take the share of the second spot on the leaderboard.
Tiley became a father for the first time recently and has been performing well since then.
On day one, he fired a sparkling six-under par 66 and kept the momentum going into the second round at the Kunetická Hora Golf Club.
The Englishman recorded birdies on the second and the third hole, prior to faltering on the fifth hole for the only bogey of his round.
He then birdied the seventh hole to offset the earlier blemish. His performance on the back nine of the course was even better, as he added three shots to his scorecard without conceding a single bogey.
At the end of his round, he had the clubhouse lead, which was later taken by Andreas Hartø, who also signed his scorecard with a 67.
At the end of the day, Tiley settled for an 11-under par 36-hole score, one stroke behind the leader. Anders Schmidt Hansen was the other player who carded the same score to join him on the leaderboard.
Overall, he was happy with his performance, despite missing a couple of birdie chances over the last three holes.
He now holds a very good chance of finishing the tournament on top of the leaderboard, which will eventually brighten his chances of making to the 2013 European Tour season.
“I played nicely,” said Tiley. “I have given myself lots of chances and putted well and when you do that then you’re going to get birdies. It was solid stuff really so I’ve been happy so far this week”.
“I changed my driver before The Open Championship and I have been driving really well,” he added.
“It’s always good to be up at the top, you’d rather to be up that end than be down the bottom. I’ve been playing nicely so whatever happens you know your game is good so I just have to keep myself in and around the top and see what happens”.
