The Schalke manager expressed his satisfaction on the team’s displays in pre-season and praised Roman Neustadter for his showing against AC Milan.
Die Knappen played AC Milan in a club friendly on Tuesday, July 24, at the Veltins-Arena. The home side lost the game as Urby Emanuelson scored the only goal of the game in the second-half to give his side the victory.
Huub Stevens claimed that his side played brilliantly in the first-half and dominated the proceedings. He insisted that his team were impressive in the first 45 minutes, but the display in the second period was poor. The manager
claimed that if the players carried on from where they had left, Schalke could have won the game.

that the player’s performance was affected by the large number of substitutions made at the interval.
“I'm very satisfied with the first half, in particular. We created a lot of chances. I was very pleased with that. The second half was not what I want to see, however. I'm very happy with Roman's performance. It was very tough
for Tranquillo in the second half because the team as a whole did not perform as I would wish,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website.
Stevens stressed on the importance of playing time for all players before the start of the season. The manager admitted that pre-season games serve the purpose of giving ample match practice to the players and he wants to test
every member with 90 minutes.
“The players need to get their playing time. That's normal in pre-season. I want to try out several players over 90 minutes,” he concluded.
