Stevie Wilson and Alain Sign claim 2012 RS800 European Championships – Sailing Update
After sailing tremendously in 10 races on the Fraglia Vela Riva, Lake Garda waters, Stevie Wilson and Alain Sign were able to claim the top podium place of the 2012 RS800 European Championships.
The pair grabbed the overall fleet lead from the beginning and continued their superb sailing until the landed on the top place of the fleet standings with 14 points.
The weather conditions on the Fraglia Vela Riva, Lake Garda were quite ideal as the breeze was gusting around from 12 to 15 knots which really pushed the fleet to cross the finish line on time.
The forecast on the final day of the regatta was fluctuating in the morning but as the participants launched their boats into the waters, the wind started building up which was helpful.
The leading pair of Wilson and Sign began their regatta campaign with a couple of tremendous bullets in the first two races on the opening day. Later in the proceedings, the pair kept their good form intact and claimed five more bullets which confirmed their
top place.
A seventh finish in the ninth race did not affect their overall scores and they remained on top of the standings with 14 points after 10 races and two discards.
James Date and Toby Wincer finished on second place with 27 points. The duo had fluctuating score line from the beginning. They grabbed three bullet finishes during their run.
