Question:

Stew baked inside bread.. Is there a name for it?

Call me crazy, but I thought a long while back on the food network I saw a show that had stew that was cooked/baked inside bread roll things... I really wanted to know if there was a name for that because it looked so good and I wanted to try it at home.

I am not talking about making stew and using bread as a bowl, this was actually cooked, put inside dough, and baked....

Any help would be great!

Thanks.

  1. There are meat pies that have savory fillings.

  2. In michigan we call those pastys, very tasty, use pie dough and put your stew inside and bake according to pie dough instructions

  3. Thats actually pretty easy, all you have to do is:

    1. Cook your stew.

    2. Make your dough or buy biscuits or whatever you want.

    3. Make a pocket in the dough and stuff the stew inside, close up the  dough, make sure theres no holes.

    4. Bake!

    The recipe sounds good.

  4. i think its called Shepperd's pie

  5. I've eaten this at several truck stops around the USA. Most of them just call it stuffed bread and I've seen it stuffed with numerous different stuffings.  Italians call it stromboli or calzone, Germans have one called beirox that I love to cook in the winter, it contains cabbage, meat and spices. Here's a link to a Rachael Ray recipe for a spinach and artichoke stuffed bread.
