Stewart Cink shares third spot midway through the Wells Fargo Championship – Golf News
Stewart Cink carded a three-under par 69 in the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship to share the third spot at the Quail Hollow Country Club on Friday, May 4, 2012.
Cink’s overall performance was impressive on the second day too, as he retained the lead through the 16 holes that he played.
However, he faltered on the final two holes that witnessed him record bogeys, forcing him to slip to a lower position on the leaderboard.
“I was very pleased overall and finishing like that is not what you want to do, of course, but they're tough holes and I missed a short putt on 18, which kind of stinks,” said Cink, who shared the opening round lead after carding a seven-under par score
on Thursday.
“But looking at it as a whole, I think overall very pleased, and I probably would have taken 10-under for two rounds before we teed off Thursday,” added . “Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. It's a good challenge and a good chance for me to get some feedback
on what I'm doing”.
Overall, he looked pleased with his performance and is confident to continue the run of his good form in the final two rounds of the tournament.
In the 2012 PGA Tour season, he has played a total of 10 events so far and made the cut six times. Moreover, he recorded only one top-25 finish in the season, which speaks of his poor form on the tour.
Golf commentators started believing that he will not be able to return to his form that earned him the last victory on the PGA Tour and his maiden major win that came in The Open Championship in 2009.
However, he has now surprised his critics and proved that he still has the courage, and can threaten his opponents on the course.
His best finish of the season came in the Farmers Insurance Open where he tied for the 13th position.
He is now aiming to improve his record in the current season especially after getting such a great start at Quail Hollow.
