Downing became Kenny Dalglish’s most expensive signing of the current summer transfer window as the Reds paid Aston Villa £20 million to acquire his services.
The 27-year-old winger believes that the he would have to give his best performances in order to earn a place in Dalglish’s starting eleven. He believes that his £20 million price tag would be of no importance if he fails to make an impact at the club in
the upcoming season.
The English international said, "I don't think the fact Liverpool have paid the money for me will mean anything to Kenny. If you don't perform, you won't be in the team regardless of whether you cost £20m or not."
The former Villa winger has now set his sights on creating a formidable attacking partnership with Liverpool’s record signing, Andy Carroll.
The 27-year-old winger has claimed that he is fully aware of Carroll’s strength as he hailed the positioning awareness of the towering English striker.
