Liverpool forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 believes that the Reds can win at least one domestic cup this season.
Stewart Downing has had his fair share of misfortune in the domestic cup contest, as he revealed that he never managed to get a taste of glory with his former teams.
However, the winger is hopeful that he can change all of that this time around, as he looks to pick up the trophy with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and try and end the season on a high for the Reds.
The twenty seven year old, when talking about his experiences in the cup competition is quoted to have said:  “The first one I was an unused sub for Middlesbrough. I would have liked to have played but I was still involved.”
“The second one for Villa against United - a few things didn't go our way. [Nemanja] Vidic could have been sent off early on, they had a penalty and took the lead.”
“We were a little bit unlucky on the day. It would have been nice to finish with a medal but it wasn't to be. Hopefully this time around I'll get one.”
Despite Liverpool performing rather poorly in the Premier League, the team  has been more than just decent in their cup competitions.
Liverpool went on to knock out Manchester United and Manchester City from the FA Cup and the Carling cup and hence it is safe to assume that the team’s prime focus is on winning a cup, as opposed to contesting for a better position in the league table.
Many experts believe this is the kind of approach that would see the team end the season with at trophy, but without a Champions League spot.
However, should Liverpool manage to end their trophy drought this season, they can come in next season and try and push for the title.
Not only would the team have much better confidence and self belief next season, but they would also be able to evolve their team, after realizing just what is wrong with the team this time around.
Nonetheless, a win in the domestic cup competition is going to help out Liverpool much more than Downing believes it can.
