Stewart Downing working hard to earn first team berth at Liverpool next season – EPL News
Newly signed Liverpool winger, Stewart Downing, has claimed that he faces tough competition for a first team berth at the Merseyside club ahead of the upcoming 2011/12 English Premier League.
However, the English winger has insisted he is working day and night to impress the Reds’ manager Kenny Dalglish in order to mark his name in Liverpool’s starting eleven.
Kenny Dalglish splashed £20 million to sign Downing from Aston Villa few weeks ago and has already signed three midfielders in the current transfer window.
The Liverpool manager now faces a selection dilemma as the Reds squad is flooded with established midfielders. The Anfield club have spent £18 million to sign young midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 from Sunderland and £8 million to land former Blackpool skipper Charlie Adam.

The former Villa winger has claimed that he is still uncertain about his place in Liverpool’s starting eleven as there is intense competition for places in midfield.
“I'm not sure where the manager sees me playing but I just want to do well for Liverpool,”
Downing has revealed that his biggest challenge at Liverpool is to get his name in Kenny Dalglish’s starting eleven. The Englishman is aiming to become a sure starter at Anfield next season.
"To get in the team to start with. There are so many good players here; it's a challenge because obviously we want to finish as high as possible in the league. I've got to get in the team and play well,” the Englishman explained
The 27-year-old winger believes that Liverpool have been progressing well since Dalglish took over the managerial post in December 2010. The former Villa winger hailed the Reds’ impressive finish to the season as the Merseyside club ended sixth in the league standings despite a horror start.
Liverpool are definitely aiming to earn UEFA Champions League qualification next season and Downing wants to play a crucial role in achieving that objective.
