  1. I really, really, REALLY hope Scott Riggs keeps his ride, because he got a raw deal with Evernham and got screwed over after their 2007 slump, now he's getting crappy equipment at Haas.

If someone has to go with him, I'd like it to be maybe Stephen Leicht or some other young talent with no ride....

  2. the sad thing is tony is buying hass cnc but wont drive for them  he is going to drive for the devil HMS

  3. the bottom line is money and with who or whom you can make the most  money with. Who knows if Tony &  Zippy will stay together. If the grass is greener on the other side yes Zippy would probably go. It is 80% about the money and 20% friendship.

  4. Tony Stewart/Ryan Newman: Could an announcement of a pairing between Stewart and Newman, driving for Stewart’s new team with equipment supplied by Hendrick Motorsports, be just days away?

Although he’s not officially acknowledged himself as a free agent, Stewart is perhaps the key domino that everyone is waiting to fall. Stewart has insisted that he has not asked to be released from his current contract with Joe Gibbs Racing, which extends through the 2009 season, possibly because there’s a buyout clause, which has become standard in many driver contracts.

Stewart and his associates have done a superb job of keeping details about his future a secret, which in itself is a remarkable feat considering the Cup garage environment is one where keeping a secret is nearly impossible.

However, small details have leaked out which point to Stewart assuming either a majority or full ownership of Haas/CNC Racing, which is currently a satellite team of Hendrick Motorsports. Reports surfaced last week that Stewart toured the Hendrick shop.

Among the details that have emerged is that the one of the sponsors for Stewart’s team will be Office Depot, which is currently on the 99 car at Roush Fenway but is due to be replaced next season by Aflac.

When asked about Stewart’s apparent return to the General Motors fold, GM’s director of motorsports Mark Kent categorically denied any knowledge of Stewart’s plans.

Some in the garage believe that it is still likely that Stewart would finish out his contract with JGR and not drive for his own team next year, allowing JGR officials to secure the future of the 20 car.

Joey Logano: Should Stewart leave JGR at the end of the season, or stay until the end of 2009, all signs now point to the team putting teenage phenom Logano in Stewart’s No. 20 car.

Logano has shown that he can be competitive when thrown into the deep end, and team owner J.D. Gibbs speaks with glowing praise about the 18-year-old driver.

If Stewart leaves at the end of this season, current No. 20 car crew chief Greg Zipadelli, whose contract with JGR is through 2009, is expected to stay on with JGR and tutor the youngster, turning him into one of the sports next superstars and giving JGR the hottest trio of young guns in the sport.

I listed my source so everyone knew where it came from but it didnt post with my answer., dont know why but here it is again.

  5. Unfortunately, Jayski.com is an unreliable resource.  I have heard nothing from my friend who works at JGR.  If I hear anything I will say something.  But until then, nothing's really been confirmed.

  6. ESPN basically stopped short of reporting this as a done deal on NASCAR Now, and to know I'm going to see the Office Depot logo on a car that is at least owned, and quite possibly driven, by Tony Stewart is going to be upsetting for the first couple races next year.  (ESPN reported the sponsors will be Old Spice and Office Depot, but what do they ever know?)

I'm going to skip to Zippy and choose a second driver later.  I sure hope, for Tony's sake, he gets to take Zippy.  Something tells me he wouldn't work well with Bootie.  I think their personalities would clash quite a bit.

Back to the prior question.  Of those two, I'd take Truex.  I'm not entirely sure Newman would be interested in going to Stewart/Haas/CNC.  He basically wants better equipment, so that would be a step back for him.  Truex, on the other hand, being with DEI, is used to sub-par equipment.  However, would he go to a different team when he's top banana at DEI?  Methinks the answer is no.  So, I can't pick either one of those guys.  So, I'm going to scratch on this one.  I don't know a good fit with Stewart and a recovering team.  Just please please please please please don't let it be Johnny Sauter again.

  7. I just want Tony back in a Chevy, but I want to hear it from Smoke, if he has Truex Jr or Rocketman would be fine with me.. Sounds like next year could be a new beginning.. I want to hear it when its official..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  8. until it comes from Tonys mouth it is not a done deal.

  9. Tony rarely does very well the first half of the season and rumors like this pop up every year. Then Tony starts winning and the rumors go away. I don't have any inside information, but my gut feeling is that Tony will stay with Gibbs. It takes more than money to make championships. It takes cooperation between an owner, driver, crew chief, sponsor, and a whole team of people backing them up to make it happen. Tony has it all in place with Gibbs, and if he leaves he will be the next Kurt Busch, leaving the team that made him great and disappointing everyone since then.

Coach Gibbs has been loyal to Tony and helped Tony off the track as much as on it. Such loyalty should be respected. Tony is not my favorite, but is on my top 10 list. If he leaves Coach Gibbs there will be an opening on my list and I'm guessing that of many others.

  10. Well for his own sake, Stewart better do whatever it takes to get Zippy over there too because look how Gordon has fared since parting with Evernham... he's still a great driver, but that has only turned into one title. He is not nearly as dominate as when Ray was on the box.

  11. I am a huge fan of the whole Home Depot Tony Stewart bunch, this is the most upsetting news since Dale Earnhardt Sr. died. I really want to see Tony with Gibbs, but I guess I will have to go out to the store and buy a collectible Tony Stewart diecast.

I would rather see Newman with Stewart. If anything, Stewart should drive the Bass Pro, and Newman the UPS. I dont want to see Stewart in a UPS. Just isn't right.

Zippy should def. go with Tony, It will be the best thing us Stewart fans are getting out of this deal.

Zippy Tony longest driver crew chief combination as of now. =]

  12. I would like truex to go with him and they have ups, old spice and Bass pro shops as sponsors   driving chevys and with supplies from hendrick!! thats a team

  13. I hope not. I agree with some ESPN insiders, that Tony shouldn't be concentrating on ownership right now & that he remain a driver only @ JGR.

I'm a Jeff Gordon fan, but still Tony is more than likely going to commit career suicide with this move.

  14. NEWMAN.

  15. I think you can not blame Tony for this. He gets ownership in this deal and Haas is contected with Hendrick by supplying there engines. Also Chevy has wanted Tony back so they will give as much support to that team as they can. I think Tony can make the car run fine and compete for a spot in the chase. A big question in my opinion is if Home Depot will try to get out of there deal with JGR early also to go join Tony at Haas.
