Question:

Stick Tape?

So my pah says that I should use "clear tape" on my stick, when I told him I don't tape the bottom part (head end I think it's called). Should I tape it with clear tape? Or am I right in not taping it at all?

  1. No. The clear tape is for your socks. The cloth tape or friction tape as it is called is what you use on your stick. The clear tape will only mess up everything if you put it on your stick. . Ask the pro shop people for help

Bring your stick to the pro shop. They will show you what to do with taping. No need for sandpaper at all

  2. Both are wrong. The clear tape is for your socks only. But you do need to tape it. Get standard cloth tape and wrap it around the blade, heel to toe. Before you do that, add a strip along the bottom of the blade.

The tape keeps your blade (bottom end, never heard the word head in relation to a hockey stick) from wearing out from the friction. If you don't, the blade will wear out quickly, and depending on what stick you bought have to buy a new blade or a new stick.

And if you do sandpaper, which I would not advice as it might weaken your blade, do it real lightly.

  3. i dunno, ive never heard of that, you can put a blow torch to the blade and put the tape on right after, this way the tape will adhere really good then. I would stay away from sand paper, incase you go to hard and ruin the blade. Alot of people use the fire for the tape to become more tacky to the blade

  4. I am not a fan of that pro-shop's suggestion.  If you are using a wooden blade, you are going to remove some of the fiberglass coating which will make the blade porous and absorb more water.  If it is a composite stick, do you really want to take sandpaper to a $100+ piece of equipment?

If you are playing ice hockey, I recommend you tape at least a portion of your blade with cloth tape.  It really does help with your puck control.  If you are playing street or roller hockey, I find that it doesn't make that big of a difference.  If you choose to not use tape at all, I would suggest just sticking with that option rather than the sand paper or clear tape.

  5. u should just take that clothe tape

    works fine

no point in sandpaper, clear tape, or an old tee shirt

  6. i just wrap the blade in cloth (i.e. an old t-shirt) and then staple it to the blade.
