Question:

Sticking keys a sign of keylogging?

I just bought a new laptop in May from Dell. My keys "stick"...I'll push them down while I'm typing and it misses the letters even though I clearly pushed them. It seems to happen more when I am typing fast. I had problems with a hacker previously, but I took my computer to a repair shop who found no problems. The hacker announced to a friend of mine in a chat room that the computer place would not have found the keylogger he put in my computer. I don't know if he was messing with me or not. Could these sticking keys be a sign that he really did keylog me? Thanks!

  1. You can change the settings of the keyboard to be responsive to a higher rate of key taps. That may be the problem.

This 'hacker' is talking out of his a**. Keyloggers are pretty quickly found by any decent security application. Make sure you scan your laptop once a week with antispyware like threatfire or spybot s&d. In your case I'd say threatfire because it has anti-virus and is also designed to detect keyloggers straight away. It's free from the link below.

An untraceable keylogger tends to be a hardware key logger and I'm guessing the fake hacker hasn't been able to take apart your laptop and install it. Change your passwords noww and then. A lot of people use the names of friends, teams, bfs and gfs. To people who know you they can guess the password.

You might just have a slightly bad laptop. I've had two that had to be replaced. It happens.

  2. Try a online virus scan here are some address to try Safety.Live.com...TrendMicro.com...get some protection Comodo.com is offering a complete security suite free and yes they can be trusted if you want to do it yourself I recommend Avira.com along with Safer-Networking.org(spybot search&destory) or SpywareBlaster from majorgeeks.com or Lavasoft.com...MalwareBytes.org is another good one to consider althrough the last two don't offer free protection some even recommend two anti-spyware scanners just to be on the safe side the other bit of advice i have to offer is external firewalls they hardwire to the machine with usb or firewire hook up now thats cutting edge tech.Remember paid is usally better than free however since Comodo.com kind offer that may not be the case anymore...get a can of cleaner from a office supply store read and follow instructions and carefull who you let use your machine
