Dawn Power Dissolver  It is in a small dark blue trigger spray bottle sold next to the dish soap in most stores. Spray it on and let it sit for 15-20 mins and then use a wet, regular strength Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It'll come right off! Good luck!

The stuff that the counter tops are made from is pretty durable.  I would suggest a good degreaser like Lestoil or even Dawn dishwashing liquid.  Soak the area with the cleanser and let it sit for a few minutes for the degreasing to take effect, then scrub.  You could use a scrubber that is safe to use on teflon coated pans, that won't scratch the counter top.  You could also try one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.  I don't know what they are made of or what type of cleaner is in them, but I have had them clean things I thought would never get clean.  So give one of those a try.

Mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar a splash of dawn for the dishes and 1cup of water, put this in a spray bottle and your good to go.  The vinegar will cut the grease and so will the dawn.  you can clean everything in your kitchen with this. Also great for the tiles in the bathroom.

Those Magic Erasers are excellent on tough grease, and you don't need any harsh chemicals.

I own several rental properties and it seems like the tenants never clean the vent-a-hood, so a lot of grease builds up there. I find them easy and convenient; they do flake though, but that can be wiped up easily.

I use straight ammonia and then rinse with soap and water. It depends on what kind of countertops they are. Mine are old laminate, so they are tough. Ammonia is very good at removing heavy grease. Wear gloves.
