I was at a wedding three days ago when I started to get a horrible headache. The next morning it was mostly gone, but came back later on. The next day, yesterday, I had a very stiff neck and it hurts to turn it to the left, right, and even hurts a little to move it up and down. I also had diarrhea yesterday & the day before, but it appears to be gone now. Today, I still have a slight headache, that intesifys if I move around. My neck is still very stiff and hurts to move. Does anyone know what this possibly could be. Should i go to a doctor? What should i do?

  1. As per Shelita, worst case scenario for a horrible headache and stiff neck is meningitis, which is potentially fatal, and yes, you ought to go to a doctor as soon as possible. If it were me, I'd go to the ER tonight.

  2. Sounds like a migraine. You could go to a doctor if you like, but another possibility is that you might be dehydrated. Was the wedding outside in the hot sun, and did you drink alcohol, and dance a lot? All of those things mean that you've got to drink a lot of water to compensate. So drink say 10 ounces of water, and see if that makes you feel any better.

  3. 1) Possible migraine headache

for relief, try lying quiet, no tv, no radio, close the curtains, turn the ringer off on your phone, just be quiet.

    2) Possible tension headache

put heat on your neck, take either motrin or aleve, even better, get a massage of your neck & shoulders area.

    3) Worse case senario...Menengitis

    go to your doctor ASAP!!

  4. It could be a virus.  Migraines with a stiff neck are unusual.  I have had weird headaches with the stiff neck that last 3-4 days before resolving.  I am adding a link to meningitis since that is a consideration if you had the other symptoms.  If you do have the other symptoms, go to the doctor or ER!

Try running hot water in the shower on your neck. See if that helps.  It should. Or a heat pad.
