  1. if i was you i would go get your swing speed checked then see what shaft you should get

  2. If you don't know what your swing speed is, you can get fitted for your clubs.  If you don't want to go that route, base it on upper body strength.  If you have a strong upper body, then use a stiff flex.  If not, go with regular.

  3. The stiff shafts (usually steel shafts) are for golfers with lots of muscular strength and high clubhead speeds, whilst the regular shafts (usually of fiber or alloy) are for the not-so-strong golfers like me, with lower clubhead speeds.

Stiff shafts have less whipping action whilst the regular shafts have slight whipping action and more forgiving. Most golf pros and the younger low handicappers use stiff shafts made of steel.

  4. You should play the "weakest" flex that you can control without too much dispersion.

You really need to get on a launch monitor though and try out various drivers.

I have a 98-99 mph swing speed.. most people would scream out "you need stiff flex" .but.. guess what?  I play a regular flex in my driver.

It really depends on more than just swing speed alone...

Are you aggressive on your swing?  Aggressive transition on your downswing?

Is your swing smooth (tempo)?  Or are you a "hitter" instead of a "swinger" ?

  5. go with stiff, depends on how strong you are

  6. Finding the best driver is for your swing requires that you test shaft and head combinations, not just try to find the right flex. A regular flex may work fine with one driver, but you may need stiff in another. And at the same time, one BRAND of shaft in a given flex may work well for you, while a different brand with the same listed flex may not work well at all with your swing.

The only way to find the correct setup for your swing is to go to a store with a launch monitor and try different driver/shaft combinations until you find what works best for you.

  7. Most likely stiff but it's impossible to say for sure. Go to a golf shop with a hitting area, try a few out and get some recommendations from the staff there. You can still go out and buy one online or somewhere cheaper if you want, but they should be able to tell you what to look for.

  8. Either may work, but for a (driver) try regular - buy a used one that you can return, and try a couple of rounds, then go from there.

  9. Since you are younger, than you want to go with stiff because regular is for elderly because of their slow club head speed of only 60-80.
