Reports from Estadio Jose Alvalade confirm that Sporting Clube de Portugal have successfully signed Stijn Schaars from AZ Alkmaar. After signing with Portuguese Liga outfit, the 27-year-old midfielder reveals that he has signed with one of the best clubs
playing in Portugal.
The highly-rated midfielder has been a part of AZ since his arrival at AZ Stadion in 2005/06 season from Vitesse Arnhem. The Dutch International made well over 100 appearances and managed to score seven goals as well. The midfielder earlier desired to take
the next step in his career and as expected, the technically gifted player made a move away from AZ Stadion in the ongoing summer transfer market.
The Dutch International was heavily linked earlier with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven, but the Lions were quick in negotiating with the AZ management to acquire his services and lured the midfielder away from the city of Alkmaar. The 27-year-old also admitted that the transition
was fast after the Portuguese Liga outfit showed sudden interest a couple of days ago.
“It all went too fast. The negotiations with PSV had some delays and Sporting Lisbon showed sudden interest”, Schaars was quoted as saying to the media.
The highly-rated midfielder then went on to reveal that it was his dream to move abroad and to play for the Lions. He admitted that he accepted the offer without giving it a second thought.
“It has always been a dream of mine for a foreign adventure to play for Sporting and when they offered, I did not need to think. It is one of the best clubs in Portugal with Porto and Benfica”, the 27-year-old added.
The former Vitesse midfielder looked back at his stay with AZ and admitted that he owes a lot to the club.
“I have enjoyed great years with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571, and I owe much to the club. However, I wanted to take the next step. In Netherlands, I just wanted to move to PSV or Ajax, otherwise a foreign club”, the midfielder concluded.
Reports confirm that the 27-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Lions.
