Still can't remove the wallpaper?

I have tried the tiger thing, scratching the wall, I have used, soap and water in a spray bottle and I have used wallpaper remover - it just will not come off. I have been working on the same wall for 5 hours and still only have a small section done. It is almost as if it was put on with crazy glue.

  1. gave up, u might just do more damage to the wall then it's worth, resheet the walls in 1/4 '' drywall and save time

  2. Ok OK No problem. Relax. I have removed paper from over 200 rooms, some was easy some not however there are manyways to remove paper, you have to figure out the best way with this type of paper and glue, they are not all the same plus  the process is different on every room, sometimes you must do things differently on different walls in the same room, its just expereance, but never continue  a hard way! It will drive you nuts. The problem as I  see it is , you may not be using enough water and not letting it soak long enough or you are letting it soak two long and it is drying out or you are not cutting deep enough with the paper tiger. However I think your problem is maybe you are dealing with a foil type paper, think aluminum foil and no liquid is going to penetrate, or you are dealing with a type of glue that is not water soluable. Since it is stuck so well and will never come off your best option is to skim walls with quick setting mud, which takes years of practice, sorry not a diy, because you dont know the 101 tricks of the trade; example you never work with  mud right out of the bucket but mix it with water with, a heavy duty drill and paddle  to just the right consistancy or use quick set mud and thats before you put any on the walls, sorry not a diy. If you try ok best of luck. You could try calling some large contractors and ask them who the best patch men are that they know and give it to them as a side job. You came her for advice and that is mine. 30 years contractor, been there done that.  1/4 wall board is not the way to go . Good Luck Jerry

  3. I wouldn't add more drywall on top of the old, you'll get offset problems. Just get as much paper off as you can and them skim the walls with drywall compound, sand lightly, texture, prime, and paint.

  4. I could have put new quarter inch sheetrock over it, taped the seams and be watching T.V by now !

  5. Try sizing........mix as instructed.....apply to the walls and it will loosen what paper is left....

  6. I saw this on "Trading Spaces"...you wet down the wall with a sponge, then with a scraper you take off the paper, for the STUCK on paper use the steam setting on the iron to lift it up then continue scraping. good luck

  7. There is some new stuff out that I saw on TV that is supposed to work well.  It is a paper that comes in long strips like wallpaper.  You wet it and then stick it to the wall and spray it again with a spray bottle.  Let it sit the allotted time, and it loosens up the wallpaper glue.  I think you have  to use the tool that puts all the little perforation in the wallpaper first to get it to penetrate properly.  Hope this helps!

  8. We removed tons of wallpaper from our new house (it was old stuff, like from the 80s or something). We just used vinegar and water. Buy some regular distilled vinegar, fill the spray bottle about half way, then the rest of the way with water. Spray it on the wall, let it soak for a minute before you try peeling or scraping. We used a wallpaper scraper that we bought at Lowe's, I believe it was Pirahna brand. But if that starts to damage the walls more than it's scraping (we ran into that), just use a plastic putty knife. Now, you might have to pull off the top layer of the paper first. That's how ours went. We had to peel off the top layer and then use the vinegar/water on the glue. Good luck!
