  2. The 1880 US Census lists a Neelie Johnson who is a decade older than the dates you list:

    Neelie Johnson

    Born: Lyons, Orangeburg, South Caorlina

    Age: 17

    Birth year: abt 1863

    Birthplace: South Carolina

Relationship to head of household: daughter

    Father's birthplace: South Carolina

    Mother's name: Ann

    Mother's birthplace: South Carolina

    Occupation: Laborer

    Marital status: Single

    Race: Black

    Gender: Female

    Household Members:

    Neelie 17

    Preston 14

    Tena 12

    Mariah 10

    Mary Ann 8

    April 5

    Walter 3

The dates don't match, but her birthplace does.

The 1930 Census lists a Cornelia Johnson living in Rossville, Chester, South Carolina, age 57, born about 1873.  Cornelia Johnson, 57, is living with a Mary Johnson, age 36.

A public family tree on Ancestry.com lists a Neely Johnson with no life dates who is the mother of Recell Johnson, born 7 Dec 1919, in South Carolina and who died in October 1984 in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina.  Recell's husband is listed as Robert Sumter.

  3. You probably want to order Recell's Social Security Application.

It will have his parents names, where he lived, worked etc at the time of the application.  This way you will know Neelie's complete name.

The cost is $27 but well worth it.

    Born: 7 Dec 1919

    Died: Oct 1984

State (Year) SSN issued: South Carolina (Before 1951

  4. Her date of death is in the SC death index that I sent you... and the death certificate is possibly the one place to find the names.
