Still-strong Tseng firm not to take pressure anymore
Current world number one Yani Tseng has said that being at the number one position in world rankings has always been her top priority, but taking “too much pressure” in the last couple of months worked against her aims.
Sharing her thoughts during her latest interview at The TwinEagles Club, Eagle Course Naples, Florida, on Wednesday, Tseng said that her fans have been concerned about her performance slump, which is obvious — but she has decided to take things as they are, and produce a natural game.
“I think I don't have to play well to be a super woman now. That's what I learned because I always want to be World Number 1, I want to be best golfer in the world,” said Tseng who racked up three LPGA titles early in the season, but has been struggling to end a winning drought since late March.
“Last three or four months I was really trying too hard and putting myself too much pressure and I second guess myself if I can still win a tournament or anything”.
The top-ranked prodigy said that if she can still produce the kind of game she did a year back, then she is going to face real challenge in the next season, with several South Korean and American contenders posing a threat to her number one spot.
She admitted that facing several poor finishes in the recent past worried her so much, but it also got her hopes up once again that she can still make a comeback.
Tseng is in Florida these days, where she is set to take on rivals at the CME Group Titleholders 2012. While it may be a premature to predict anything about the Taiwanese star, but her renewed form that helped her display a good performance in Asia last month can work wonders for her.
The roster at CME Group Titleholders will be as fearsome as any other LPGA tournament. However, players will look to do their best, keeping in mind that this is the last event of the 2012 season.
Tseng’s archrival, Stacy Lewis, has cemented her reputation in the season, having notched up four victories that has brought the total number of her top-10 finishes to 16.
