Question:

Stimulus Check Delay?

I am wondering if anyone had to ammend their return, in turn causing a delay for the stimulus check? I should have recieved the check (paper) May 30. I filed the ammended return on April 10 IRS Rep confirmed it was received. IRS.GOV indicated there is a delay only, I've check daily since June. Have you or are you going through the same thing? What have you or are you doing besides waiting?!

  1. An amendment generally puts a freeze on eveything until it's processed, so your stimulus check will be delayed.

  2. An amended return WILL delay your stimulus payment. Normal processing time is 8-12 weeks, but it will probably be longer as the IRS has a tremendous backlog of amended and duplicate returns to process.

  3. They may be holding it due to back taxes, child support or student loan debt.

  4. It is likely that the delay is because the IRS has not processed your amended return yet.  It takes several months, up to 6 months, for the IRS to process amended returns.

Depending on what you changed on your original return, the IRS might be sending your return and amended for examination.

I don't mean to scare you, but the only way to know for sure is to call the IRS and ask what the delay is.  The IRS telephone number is (800) 829-1040.

  5. I had to due an amended return and it was not processed till the end of May.  However, when I spoke to the IRS agent she said it would not affect getting my stimulus payment.  I have received my letter and the IRS website is saying it will be out this Friday.  Of course my amended return was just to collect my education credits.  If yours was to adjust income or tax information in anyway then it is possible that would delay your stimulus check.
