I have heard and read that the IRS keeps and applies the Stimulus check to back taxes if you owe the IRS. I have also heard that the whole thing with the Stimulus check is screwy and people are receiving checks that shouldn't have. Is there anyone out there in Yahoo land that has received a Stimulus check when you owed the IRS? I mean the whole amount due not like part applied and the difference sent to you. If not, do you know someone who has? I know a few people myself.

  1. If back taxes are owed, you should not receive an economic stimulus check and I would be careful about cashing it if you did.  Typically the amount due will be removed from the check, if you owe more federal tax than is due, they will hold the check.  Below is a link to help answer your question in more detail.

  2. Well they should not spend the money;  but bank it.  The IRS will come looking for a return of that money.

  3. Thanks to my sorry good for nothing ex-husband I owe back taxes, but I did receive a stimulus check.
