Okay, when i filed my taxes for '06 and '07, i ending up having to owe to a government based credit card (they closed my acct. when i no longer worked for the company). And since I hadn't paid (my fault) they used my refunds from both years to pay the debt. I'm not sure of the balance that is left, but i did get a letter today from the IRS stating that my stimulus check would be mailed on the 27th. Now, my question is, would they still send me that letter even if they were going to keep my rebate? Or am i really going to receive my full amount? I'm so confused and no one really seems to know the answer!

  1. I owed too.. I got a letter stating it would be mailed and a day or two later I got another letter stating I owed a certain amount and it would be deducted from the check. You should get another letter stating they are going to take some from it.

  2. If you still owe a federal debt, yes they'll apply your rebate to it.  The letters go out anyway, saying you are eligible - if your rebate is going to be offset for some debt, you'll get a separate letter saying why it was taken.

  3. even you have a federal debt you will still get your rebate
