Stina Gardell and Martina Granstrom captured gold medals in the events of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) and 200m butterfly on last day of the 2013 Swedish Nationals Championships in Halmstad on Sunday, July 7
Gardell and Granstrom lived up to the expectations of their supporters in the 200m events, as they reached the top of victory stand for gold medal.
With her epic start, Gardell gained a marginal lead over her challengers and became prominent for the first finish. She stayed in a prominent lead over her challengers in the first half and continued her dominance in the second half for gold medal.
With her promising efforts, she remained comfortably ahead of her challengers and reached the wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.42 seconds.
The champion was traced by Joline Hostman, who remained nearly 5.20 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 17.64 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Shannyn Hiltin, who stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.27 seconds.
Subsequently, the arena was eager to see the thrilling efforts of Granstrom in the distant butterfly discipline. She stifled hopes of her opponents in the 200m discipline as she cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. She showed no mercy
to her competitors in the butterfly discipline and secured the title with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.13 seconds.
She was trailed by Rebecka Palm, who stayed nearly six seconds slower from her and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 17.15 seconds.
Third position of the race was secured by Agnes Wiiand, who was only half a body length behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 17.15 seconds.
In addition, the winners received a huge round of applause from the audience while the position holders were invited on the podium for medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the session.
