Question:

Stinky Teenager Room Help?

I just cleaned out my sons room while he is away from home on summer vacation. His room smells like dirty shoes, body odor, and a little like a locker room.

So now his room is free of garbage. I removed most of his clothes and all his shoes because they are too small. I stripped his bedding and anything else I can possible find that is making the room smell. But it still stinks.

I was thinking of using baking soda all over his carpet and mattress and let it sit a while then vacuum. But wondering if there is any other tips for deodorizing his room? (Our house is only 4 years old, and we have only lived in it about 15 months). So this smell was created by my son who does shower daily but does a lot of sports.

  1. The baking soda works.  But leave the doors and windows open too.  The more air the better.  It should air out in a few days.

When he gets back you might wanna make him leave his sports gear out in a shed, porch or whatever.  My dad never let my hockey gear in the house cuz it reeked so bad.  Now my wife is the same way...ha ha.

But all teen guys rooms got that sweaty smell sometimes I think.

  2. baking soda, carpet deorodant after that, and air opening can help a lot. Also, when you son gets back, make sure you tell him he needs to get all the sweaty clothes out of the room right after and take them to the laundry room. That goes for shoes too.

  3. frebrezze!!!! :)))

  4. LOL I have a 17-year-old son, so I know that "boy stench" well. I think your idea of baking soda is a good one--I've done that before, and also you can spray Febreze on his mattress and everything else. Maybe keep the door to his room open so air can circulate in there better. Good luck!

  5. Febreeze works really well. you have stripped the bed, so spray the mattress with it, and the pillows... get a carpet deoderizing and put on the carpet, then vacuum it up...Open the window and let the room air out for a day or two aswell.

  6. febreeze

  7. so do the baking soda thing and the vaccuming, and then burn some incense in the mother. If it still smells, febreze it. And try opening a window and leave the door open to air it out.

  8. open the window and air it out for a while, then vacuum the carpet with after spraying it with a carpet deodorizer

close his room door though, because the smell can spread through the house and stay there

  9. Go to Walmart and buy a carpet cleaner and clean the carpet in his and spray his room with lysol
