  2. Although most stock trade in units of 100 shares, you can purchase smaller amounts.  These lesser amounts are called odd lots

Just becareful, many brokerage firms, require new customers to deposit a particular amount of money, which can be used for investments.   But check with the firm you choose to see their minimums

So go for it, start you investing.  The sooner you start the better you will be

  3. You can buy just ONE share if you want.  The limiting factor is that brokerage firms charge transaction fees.  If you buy too small of a number, then the fee becomes significant percentage of  your cost.

When this happens, your stock needs to go up in price more before you can actually get a profit.

Let's say your stock is 20 dollars and your brokerage charges 10 dollar fee.  When you sell, you also need to pay 10 dollars.  If you buy just one stock, your stock needs to be 40 dollars before you even break even.  It is quite hard to find stock that appreciate that much.

If you buy 100 shares, if your stock goes to 21 dollars, you already have gained 80 dollars.

    See the difference?

  4. It doesn't matter how much you are buying. All that matters is that you are about to make an investment and I hope you learn from it.

Some brokers charge commissions but a good number of online brokers will charge you absolutely nothing.

  5. It depends on how you are buying them. Some brokers require a minimum dollar value, some do not (on-line traders).

  6. You can buy as many as you want. 50 or 100 or 102 or 52 or 48 or 32, its really upto you.
