Stock Market Bottom?

I am interested in hearing the opinion of the Yahoo community on the stock market issue. When do you think the stock market will bottom out? Please don't tell me that people spend lifetimes trying to figure that out and still can't, I am only interested in your opinion.

  1. In addition to everything else, the uncertainty of the presidential elections is weighing on the market.

After November, no matter who gets elected, the uncertainty will be removed and this could be the catalyst for a new bull market.  Consumer confidence was reported today at the lowest level since 1992, after which we got the bull market of the 90s.

  2. What people tend to forget is that the stock market is forward looking by about 6 months. So It can start turning around  at the first glimmers of hope. There is already some people thinking that the very worst is over in which case perhaps this fall the markets can start to recover.

  3. You wanted an opinion.  I don't know.  With our inept government it could be years.  If you look at the Japanese experience with their inflated realestate values collapse and their stock market, I believe it has lasted 15 years and is still sort of continuing.  How is that for an opinion?

  4. Looks like the market bottomed TODAY.

The fed may have had something to do with it since they decide on interest rates tomorrow at 3:15

  5. I don't know when the market will bottom.  But a good sign of a bottom will be a day where the market trades sharply lower, 200 or 300 points on the Dow, and the closes higher, or nearly unchanged for the day (key reversal day); this is then followed by a day where the major market averages are all up significantly, 2% or more, within a few days of the key reversal.  The ensuing rally may only be short term, but the vast majority of long term rallies begin this way.

  6. I expect the market to go down for the rest of the summer.

October is a bad month from a historical viewpoint, so the market should be really down by that time.

Maybe some small recovery in November/December, not enough to offset the damage, though.

My opinion, FWIW, is for DOW to be 10,600 end of this year.
