Question:

Stocking 37 gallon tank?

I am cycling my tank without fish, but it is a tropical freshwater tank and I have no idea what to stock it with once it is cycled! I like elephant nose fish. I want something that is kinda a challenge, ya know. Harder than guppies but not as hard as discus. And something really cool or color full looking! =)

  1. if you do not want something as challenging as a discus do not get an elephant nose as they  are are harder to keep. try your hand at malawian mbuna's and peacock cichlids

  2. .....someone with your level of tank keeping would manage cichlids very well

.....so many colorful varieites of dwarf and easy-going cichlids, such as the 'keyhole cichlid', 'dwarf cichlids' and the 'ram cichlids' each grow to ~2.5" to 4"....include 'kribs' and 'rainbow fish'

...add to that some schools of tetras, such as 'serpaes', 'head-n-tail light',  and 'diamonds'

...and some 'red-hook' silver dollars and several marbled angels

.....my personal choices are usually always budgeted, but those mentioned above are all colorful, peaceful and easily managed

  3. elephant nose is a scavenger. So get some other fish for at least a week so it will find some stuff to dig out of the gravel.
