Stoke City defender Jonathan Woodgate not bitter about Tottenham Hotspur exit
Stoke City defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonathan-Woodgate-c19069 revealed he felt his former side Tottenham Hotspur could be title contenders this season, after his side defeated them 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium over the weekend. He claimed he had no ill feelings about being made
to leave White Hart Lane and was currently happy at Stoke City.
After an injury plagued career with the London side, Woodgate was released by the club, after which he signed with Stoke City. The 31-year-old has since then been in top form and was one of the best player’s on the pitch against his former side.
Woodgate said while speaking to reporters:
“There's no animosity between me and anyone at Spurs. They're a great side and I wish them all the luck in the world.
I think they'll go close to winning the league, if not this year, then next year.”
Despite defeating Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, Woodgate felt they possessed the quality to go and challenge the top teams for the title at the end of the season. He insisted that he held no grudges against the manager and the club and was al-right
with the way things had ended.
He revealed:
“I don't want to show anyone anything - I'll do it with my performances. I don't need to show anyone I can still play. I get on with my game and I know Harry Redknapp believes in me, so no problem.”
Woodgate signed for Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window of 2008 for a fee of £7 million and made an impressive debut for the London side. Unfortunately, he picked up a long term groin injury because of which he could only play three matches
in the 2009-2010 campaign.
The defender was diagnosed with a strain to his left adductor muscle and even though Spurs offered him a pay-as-you-play deal, he refused. Woodgate admitted he was sad to have left but was happy knowing the manager still believed in him and he was still
playing the Premier League.
Woodgate admitted:
“I didn't want to leave and he didn't want me to either. But that's life - you've got to get on with it. You move on.”
