Stoke City goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asmir-Begovic-c6841 believes the English Premier League side have the required foundations for success in the upcoming seasons.
The 25-year-old stopper believes his side can learn much from Newcastle United, who finished at fifth place in the English Premier League last season. Begovic thinks Stoke City can also improve in the upcoming seasons and aim for a finish in the top half of the table.
He revealed the players at the club were desperate to do well and were confident in their sides ability to claim a decent finish at the end of next season. The Bosnia and Herzegovinian stopper felt long term plans were very important for the growth of a team and believed Stoke City were moving in the right direction in that regard.
Begovic said while speaking to reporters:
“We're desperate for the club to push on and I think there is a lot of room to grow in many respects. The main thing for the club, and what's happening really, is that they've tried to put plans in place for the club to be successful long term, and that's very important.”
In their last four seasons, Stoke City managed to finish between 11th and 14th in the Premier League, a decent achievement since being promoted from the Championship. The Potters even participated in the Europa League last season, doing unexpectedly well in the second tier European competition.
The Stoke City number one praised Newcastle United and their rise to prominence and the top half of the table and felt his club could follow in their footsteps. He felt their participation in Europe last season had prepared them for the upcoming years, which would only prove to be more challenging.
He continued:
“Newcastle have been a kind of a sleeping giant really, if you think about where the club was 10 odd years ago and the levels they were competing at, so it's no surprise they can reach those levels. For us, being in Europe has taken us into unexplored territory, so we're starting to scratch the surface and see where we can go from there.”
