Why did people from stoke on trent start calling each other 'duck'

It's cute in the beginning, but can get a little annoying if it's tacked onto the end of every sentence (same as "you know")!

So if that is correct, then why do northerners call each other 'chuck', why do liverpudlians call each other 'our kid', why do yorkshire and lancashire call each other 'lorve' (love), why do geordies call each other 'pet', why do black country people refer to others as 'our mam' 'our john' 'our babby'.

Of course there are many more, just cant think of them at the moment.

They are just regional terms, but so sweet.

because legend has it that under prince charles the first north west was nearly taken over in civil wat tween scotland n england. when the scots were comming all stoke on trent was told to 'duck' to avoid being killed and ever since stoke on trenters call each other duck!
