Stoke sign striker Kenwyne Jones
Stoke City have announced the signing of Kenwyne Jones from English Premier League rivals Sunderland. The striker has arrived for a club record fee of eight million pounds.
The Trinidad and Tobago international has signed a four-year deal with The Potters after having a spell on loan with them in 2005 while he was at Southhampton. Manager Tony Pulis told the club’s official website that: “Kenwyne is unplayable on his day which is why this is a fantastic signing for this football club."
Stoke had been in need of a reliable goalscorer as they look to make progress in the EPL this season and with 25-year-old Jones, Pulis believes he has found the right man for the job. He added that: “We need goals in our team and we also need strong competition among our strikers if we are to continue improving at this level. Kenwyne will give us that. It's no secret that I am one of his biggest admirers, he did a smashing job for us when he was here on loan. He was very young back then, but I believe that he has the best years ahead of him as a top striker."
'Exciting chapter'
During his loan spell with Stoke, Jones had played under Pulis and revealed that his previous stint with the club had helped convince him to make a permanent move. He said that: "The fact that I know the manager, some of the players and the place so well has obviously been an influence upon me coming here. This is an exciting new chapter in my career and I want to do my best for a Club that has clearly had great success since I was last here.”
Jones arrives after enjoying a spell with Sunderland which saw him score 28 goals in 98 games across all competitions after joining the club three years ago.
