  1. just a note:  when you travel you should always make copies of such documents that are taken with you (passport, birth certificate, i.d.)  you can leave a copy at home, take one with you, and email one to yourself just in case you lose the copy you took with you.  I'm sorry to say, but your documents will be used.  They are often used to cross people from mexico to the US.  These people often have many different passports and other documents and when one of their "clients" wants to cross the border, they pick out a passport that most looks like the client so they can pass with out any problem.

What can you do now that you are back in California?  Well go the dept. of state's website.  there they have all this information on passports.  There is a link for "lost or stolen passports" and will let you know what to do for just such a case.    Here is a clip of whats on the website:

Or call us toll free at: 1-877-487-2778 (TTY 1-888-874-7793)

Operators are available 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., ET, Monday-Friday, excluding Federal holidays.

    IMPORTANT NOTICES

If your still valid passport was lost or stolen, please submit the DS-64 form with the DS-11 application when you apply for a replacement at a Passport Agency or Acceptance Facility. NOTE: You must appear in person.

The information you provide on the DS-64, Statement Regarding a Lost or Stolen Passport will be entered in our Consular Lost/Stolen Passport System.

go to their website and check it out as i believe this will help you out alot.  their site is in the source box below.

  2. How did it get stolen.... I am traveling this week and that kinda scares me....

  3. In regards to the Identity Theft, the only recourse you can have is "Vigilance".

Monitor all your Bank / Credit Card accounts 3 times a week.

Monitor your Credit Reports at least 3 times a year (You can use your Free Credit Reports one for each bureau every 4 months).

  4. assuming your an American, go the the American Embassy

  5. You should always have copies of your I.D. in your luggage...but, anyway...right now you need to go to the American Consular Agency in Cabo San Lucas.  See site below for their address and number.
