  1. D but its main purpose is to allow CO2 into the leaf and regulate the amount of water lost.  Releasing water isn't really a benefit and the oxygen exchange could only be helpful at night so it might be A.


  2. In order for aquatic photosynthetic organisms to evolve to terrestrial habitats they had to prevent dessication. They acquired a waxy cuticle to regulated water loss. To be able to proceed with photosynthesis they needed regulated pores to allow gases to exchange with the atmosphere but control water loss. Thus the evolution of the cuticle and pores are integrated and what allowed use of dry land.
