Stoner, Lorenzo, Rossi, Dovizioso, Crutchlow attend presser at Silverstone circuit – MotoGP news
Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow attended a press conference at the Silverstone circuit ahead of the upcoming AirAsia British Grand Prix.
The premier class action will begin with Friday’s free practice session at the circuit. The first one will be held in the morning while the second will be held in afternoon. The qualifiers will be held on Saturday and the race will take place the following
day on June 12, 2011.
The MotoGP championship has returned to British soil after 25 years of absence. This season, Silverstone will host the second consecutive event of the premier class after its return to the MotoGP calendar.
The winner of two successive grands prix in France and Spain, Casey Stoner hopes to continue his 2011season dominance with his staggeringly fast performance. The Aussie has been mostly leading the time sheets and race results. Being the only rider with three
victories from five rounds in the 2011 season, he is looking for another win to complete his hat trick at Silverstone.
Casey Stoner said, “Last year I really enjoyed this circuit, I had a pretty good pace but unfortunately I had a clutch problem at the start and I didn’t know if I would be able to finish the race at the start, so I was a little too cautious.”
In the final moments of 2010 British GP, Stoner closed up on Lorenzo but an arm pump issue hampered his performance. He became the fastest rider other than Jorge Lorenzo.
The defending world champion, who also leads the 2011 MotoGP points table, Jorge Lorenzo won the 2010 British GP.
Lorenzo said, “I raced aggressively; technically it was the best race of last year. I think this year we are missing some tenths, so maybe at this track I can recover (them).”
Ducati Team rider Valentino Rossi will be racing for the first time since his 2010 leg injury at Mugello. The incident dropped the Italian out of championship. With no experience of the new layout of Silverstone, Rossi is expected to have a handicap.
