Stonethrower to be suited by trip, track and ground in Sodexo Prestige Handicap Chase at Perth
In the field of 10, Stonethrower is under top weight in the Sodexo Prestige Handicap Chase (For The Duke of Atholl Challenge Cup), to be hosted by Perth on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. So, Tim Vaughan’s charge is not facing an easy task.
Nevertheless, one should think twice before looking elsewhere for the winner. The 7-year-old has several things in favour, including the trip, track and ground. His recent form does not look an issue too.
Owned by M. & S. Clarke, the gelding was a narrow loser on his latest start. In Hereford’s Hayonwyebooksellers.com Novices' Chase, the 9-4 chance troubled the favourite, Scotsbrook Cloud, in the hands of Michael Byrne.
But luck was not on his side and as a result, he missed the crown by a short head’s distance. Although the skilful horse could not make it to the top, he had plenty of positives to draw out.
He led initially, but made a couple of terrible makes afterwards. Despite being under enormous pressure, the J. Harding-bred ran outstandingly in the final stages.
The ground is equally solid at Perth, thus he should not face any difficultly in putting up a fantastic show. On his previous visit here, the son of Dushyantor was an easy 7-length winner in June.
Stamina is the key factor in today’s race, as it will be run over a long distance of three miles. The participants will run in search of a cash prize worth £5,848. The action is going to be started at 16:30 GMT.
Out of other contenders, Sun Tzu is most likely to make an impression. Trained by Peter Bowen, the 8-year-old returned to form in July, when he bagged a straightforward victory at Southwell. Definite Article’s son had excuses when beaten favourite here last
time.
Blazin White Face, who is performing wonderfully in handicap company, will be another tough competitor. Nodforms Violet has been consistent over the past few months, but he needs to show more form in order to win this sort of event.
It is surely not an easy job to perform for Stonethrower. But there are so many supportive things that one can take a chance on him. Good luck to all the horses.
