I am 21, and I have been smoking for about exactly a year... I have ADD, amongst other things, and it helps me. I dont even know what it feels like to have a nicotine craving..i dont smoke at all for the nicotine. I smoke for the physical aspect of it. I like the feeling of inhaling and exhaling smoke (as crazy as that sounds...) And i do want to quit smoking...but I dont know how???!! Anyone that can help me? Thanks!

  1. Go to your doctor and ask him for a prescription for chantix.

My father was a physician, and when one of his patients wanted to stop smoking, he would tell them to go cold turkey and then gave them valium, to keep them soothed while the nicotone was getting out of their system.  You can also bring that up to your doctor too.

  2. i smoked for 11 years, about a pack a day. for the very same reason, not nicotine, but the feeling of smoke filling up my longs, and then blowing it out just felt cool.

well, i'll occasionly have a cig, may be about 3 or 4 times a month, usualy when i'm drunk, but i dont consider that too bad.

i just used will power, and a lot of workout/exercise....the more i push myself in the gym, the less my body wants to smoke.....after the first few days, i stopped thinking about it really

  3. I am going to be brutally honest here. You are addicted to nicotine but I think you already know this. I used to use the same line when I was a smoker, knowing deep down I was actually addicted. Saying this made me feel better about my habit, even if it was an artificial belief.

Do you really, honestly like the feeling of stinky, disgusting smoke filling your lungs. Really?????? Nicotine addiction makes you believe you like the act of smoking when clearly there is nothing to like.

You can not quit because you are addicted to Nicotine. If you weren't addicted then you could quit smoking, just like that. You would not even have to think about it, you would just do it.

I am not having a go at you bit I think you need an honest answer. If you are to quit you have to be honest with yourself.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

  4. wow, i smoked for a year for the same reasons. i just quit cold turkey. it took me a couple of tries but i finally did it. i haven't smoked in a year come december. i also used gum and lots of candy to help!

  5. Well, I just want you to know that will power is THE MOST important thing of stopping. My grandma died from smoking. So did my grandpa. I think you should got to a Hyvee or something and ask an employee what they have to help you stop smoking or you can ask your doctor what he has also. But remember: will power! Hope I helped!

  6. I smoked for ten years.  I never wanted to admit it, but I was addicted, as I discovered when I tried to quit cold turkey.  The gum and patches did nothing for me.  I also tried Zyban (or welbutrin) which did not work.  What finally worked for me was Chantix.  I actually only took it for two months instead of four.  I have been smoke free for almost 9 months.

Be warned that Chantix has been reported to cause suicidal thoughts in some people, but it did not do that for me.  I can't believe it worked for me but it did.  The first day I was on it, I struggled to get down 1/2 a cigarette.  You can smoke the whole first week, but by the end of the first week, I didn't even want them anymore.

Sometimes I still have a craving, but they pass quickly.

  7. see ur doctor.

    they can help

  8. You may not think you want the nicotine, but your body sure does.

Do yourself a favor kiddo and check out this site:

    http://www.quitnet.com (Its free)

There is 24/7 support on there, forums, nurses you can ask questions to, etc. Everyone I know that has used this site has said nothing but positive things about it (in fact, I just had a Y user send me a thank you message today for passing that site on to him, and he is day 2 of quitting).

Also, go to a bookstore and get Allen Carr's book on quitting. It can be a bit goofy, but if you take the actual point of it, it helps a lot. Best read!
