First of all I Don't really believe in Global Warming. The earth has been around for quite awhile, and Volcanic eruptions as well as other natrual events, has hurt the atmostphere alot more then my exhaust.

But they reason I posted was I heard a great argument about global warming, and over logging.

You always hear stories of how their destorying are forest by chopping down all the trees, and environmentalist are fighting to protect the trees.

But heard on an XM advertisment that a 10 Square Acre forest of dense trees, (if on fire), puts off more toxins then 7 million cars a year.

They are wanting to thin the trees out, so there is around 50 trees per square acre, instead of 300-400 as in a normal dense forest.

Anways i just tought it was interesting, tree huggers are most likely hurting the environment more then helping it.

  1. KILL CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they polute everything

  2. Complete rubbish.

CO2 from burning trees, regardless of density, DOES NOT add to global warming. That's because the only carbon a burning tree puts into the air is the same carbon that same tree took out of the air when it was growing. The net effect is, and must be, zero.

The cause of global warming is not burning trees. It is burning fossil fuels, which puts carbon into the environment that wasn't there before.

  3. Certain kinds of trees produce greenhouse gases, most trees and plants do absorb and produce C02, but most oxygen for the planet comes from the plankton in the ocean.

  4. I wouldn't believe everything I hear on an XM advertisement.

Forest management is important, and 300-400 per square acre is probably too crowded for optimal grown, but the fire and 7 million cars thing sounds like propaganda to me.  And since it was an advertisement, there is no fact-checking necessary.

  5. Yeah but tree huggers don't care when forest rangers want to have controlled fires to burn things. There is an environmentally sound reason that they do this. In case a natural fire ever occurred, it wouldn't be too out of hand. Tree huggers fight when companies want to tear down trees in order to build a freakin parking lot or strip mall.

  6. Trees (any plants) breathe CO2 and give off O2.  Assuming we stop cutting down trees they will grow faster and more densly because they have more air to breathe which means more air for everything else.  More trees means fire problems too.

More trees = good to an extent.  Less trees = bad.  Of course you need to find the happy middle just like everything else in life.

  7. I didn't know that.  Let's get rid of all the trees then.  While we're at it we probably should burn off all those green lawns too.   They could evolve into trees someday.

  8. what toxins are you referring too? CO2 because by logging you are doing exactly the same thing as a fire would.

  9. Being a ex-logger I understand your point. The problem with the  forest is poor land management and that's to bad.  If properly harvested and maintained wood is one of the best resources we have, plus it is good for the environment.  However you cannot have one policy fits all because different species need to be managed to fit their needs.  I cannot speak for other regions except for the upper Midwest because that is what I am familiar with.  Here the deciduous forest is harvested differently then the coniferous, and we need to ensure we have good management practices to ensure we harvest the forest correctly.

  10. THE ENVIRONMENT ON THE OUTSIDE IS CAUSED BY NATURE. GLOBAL WARMING HAS BEEN HERE SINCE THE 1970'S. ITS REAL=http://www.socyberty.com/Activism/F... NOW YOU CAN HEM-N-HAW ALL YOU WANT, BUT ARE YOU GOING TO PASS UP THE TREASURES OF LIFE BY IGNORING THE FIRST STEP FROM THE SANDS OF TIME THAT MAN HAS NEVER TOUCHED FOREVER. get a salvage license, underwater equiptment  and do the first to get in on the treasures and at the same time help to delete global warming. Now as you say you dont believe, so do it for the treasures, either way you help our world out. HAVE A NICE DAY.

  11. To say that you don't believe in 'Global Warming', I hope that you are talking about 'man made' causes for this, since we seem to be fortunate enough to be experiencing the benefits of the latest current warming period.(nature)

You are correct about the so-called 'Tree Huggers' causing more damage however.

This is not the intention of most of them however.

They are simply following their 'faith and gut instincts'.

They believe what their 'peer group' is saying, and what is seen in the media.

But this has little to do with your question.

Managing forests have been going on for many years now however.

It makes sense if you wish to have larger trees to harvest in the near future, that you would want to give the best established trees room to grow without competing for resources in which to thrive.

It also makes sense to thin the tree population to a manageable level in areas where forest fires are likely to occur or occur on a frequent basis.

As far as 'toxins' is concerned, I do not know what you are referring to.( I can only assume you are talking about CO2)

I do not believe that there is any science that would substantiate a claim that a '10 Square Acre forest of dense trees', on fire could emit the equivalent of 7 million cars a year however.

10 square acres is nothing, 10 square miles might be closer to reality.(Which is only a fraction of normal worldwide forest fires)

  12. It wasn't until the treehuggers started interfering with logging practices in the west that the fires destroyed very large tracts of forest.

A lot of those fires burned hot enough to sterilize the soil so it will be a very long time before the forest will grow in those areas again.

Most environmental causes are wrong more often than they are right when they think they know enough to set policy.

Many kind hearted but gullible and uninformed people populate their ranks so it is no wonder they are not experts in these matters.

Most should stick with what they know best and keep their noses out of things they want control over but don't have an understanding of.
