Shes 7 and I want to get her to stop now before its a life long habit. I know, I did till I got my engagement ring and I was 26! She has now started biting much closer and picks at her cuticles too. The horrible tasting polish doesnt work. I need ideas!

  1. Add a few drops of hot sauce into clear polish and paint it on nails. She'll never bite again

  2. you could use hot sauce unless that doesn't work then idk good luck

  3. It is a nervous habit, help her find ways to cope with her nervousness. maybe have one of the squishy balls the small ones. Having her hands lotioned will help some with  the cuticle picking. I do that myself and so does my youngest. If her hands are lotioned daily there is not the dry skin to pick at. My oldest had a habit of putting her hands in her mouth, she did it without even thinking. It is like anything else you basically have to nag it out of them, like putting their shoes away. We came up with a hand signal so it would not embarrass her in front of others, after all it is simply a bad habit and we all have them, there a re a lot worse things they could be doing. I would just calmly say her name to get her attention and then do the hand signal, and over time she did it less and less. Most of all don't point it out in front of others, it is a nervous habit, things like that will just cause more nervousness.

  4. definelty hot sauce.........

of course, braces helped for me.

    or, maybe a manicure

  5. My mom did a couple things that worked.

First, she had nail clippers on her 24/7.  She had me carry clippers in my purse (of course, I was a little older than your 7 yr old then - p*****n I think) If I started biting, she would hand them to me.  Often it was a jagged edge or nerves that would get me biting, and the nail clippers gave me another way to worry at my nails with nerves and to get rid of those jagged edges.  Turn her into an obsessive nail CLIPPER instead of a biter.  For the cuticles, teach her to use a cuticle pusher and have one of those around - it'll give her another way to fiddle with her nails that's not biting.

Second, I was not allowed to wear nail polish unless I didn't bite my nails for a day or two (lengthen requirement as you get small successes).  Buy pretty nail polish and display and wear it, but look at her nails and frown if she's chewed them.

She'll hate the denial of the polish!  Then when you catch her biting tell her maybe tomorrow she won't bite and she'll get to wear it.  Nail polish is for "big" girls and adults who don't bite their nails.

Lastly - once you start having some success, cut her nails for her A LOT - like every other day.  If you are constantly cutting them down, she won't have any nail to bite.  A few years after she kicks the habit you can let her learn to grow her nails out nice.

  6. try giving her NEW nail polish for every week she stops bite ing her nails.

    it works

then for ever 2 months she doesnt bite her nails maybe go and take her to get her nails done!!!

    hope i help

yea that stuff u put on nails is just mean.

trust me im 12 and i hate it

    i use nail remover

  7. what worked for me was my mom put tape or like a little piece of cloth on every finger. she told me i couldnt take them off until i stopped, and when i wore them to school everyone asked why i had them. it was very embarassing, and i couldnt take them off because she put them on a special way and then inspected them at the end of every day, and i could never get it back the same way. it worked for me and i havent bit a nail since.

  8. Take privilages away

  9. I am trying to get my nine year old to stop.  I promised to take her to get a manicure if she could grow her nails out to a reasonable length.  She has really been trying hard!  She is into the girly stuff, so it just may work.
